Physiology/Medicine : Yoshinori Ohsumi
Yoshinori Ohsumi is awarded noble prize 2016 for Physiology/Medicine. He discovered and elucidated mechanisms underlying autophagy, a fundamental process for degrading and recycling cellular components. He hails from Japan and currently working as a professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Chemistry : Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Sir J. Fraser Stoddart and Bernard L . Feringa
The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2016 is awarded to Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Sir J. Fraser Stoddart and Bernard L. Feringa. The trio designed molecular machines with controllable movements, which can perform a task when energy is added. Jean-Pierre Sauvage is Professor Emeritus at the University of Strasbourg and Director of Research Emeritus at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), France. Sir J. Fraser Stoddart was born in UK. He is a Professor of Chemistry at North western University , USA. Bernard L.Feringa is Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Groningen, Netherlands.
Physics : David J. Thouless , F. Duncan M. Haldane and J. Michael Kosterlitz
The Nobel Prize in Physics 2016 was divided. One half awarded to David J. Thouless , the other half jointly to F. Duncan M. Haldane and J. Michael Kosterlitz "for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter". David J. Tholess is associated with University of Washington, Seattle, USA. F. Duncan M. Hadane is associated with Princeton University. J. Michael Kosterlitz is associated with Brown University, USA.
Peace : Juan Manuel Santos
Juan Manuel Santos is President of Columbia and Noble Peace prize winner for 2016. He received the award "for his resolute efforts to bring the country's more than 50-year-long civil war to an end".
Economic Sciences : Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmström
Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmström jointly received the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2016 "for their contributions to contract theory". Oliver Hart is associated with Harvard University. Bengt Holmstrom is associated with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
