Famous for its rich history and traditions, Ramjas College of the University of Delhi is a premiere institute of education in the country.The College has been named after Lala Ramjas, father of the founder Rai Kedar Nath. The famous institute offers courses in the liberal arts, commerce and science. Apart from the regular undergraduate and post graduate courses the College also provides short term auxiliary courses and language courses.
The founder of the college, Rai Kedar Nath was a great philanthropist and educationist who established Ramjas in1917. When University of Delhi was formed in 1922, there were three colleges which were brought under it, Ramjas College, Hindu College and St. Stephen’s College. Ramjas which was earlier being controlled by the Ramjas Foundation- an educational foundation that runs schools and educational institutions in Delhi,after 1922 came to be majorly controlled by the Government. Though, the administrative works continued to be looked after by the Ramjas Foundation.
During the Quit India Movement students of Ramjas actively participated and some of them were arrested and jailed. The names of these students can be seen inscribed on a plaque put up near the college auditorium gate.
The present building of the College was inaugurated by the first President of the country, Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1950. Dr. Prasad’s daughters studied here too.
After the death of Rai Kedarnath, Dr. B.R Ambedkar acted asthe Chairman of the Governing Body of the Ramjas College.
The College has separate hostels for men and women and provides residential services to around two hundred students. The admission to the hostel is strictly on the basis of merit. A student seeking admission to the hostel should apply on the prescribed form available from the Hostel Office.
LIBRARY AND CANTEEN
The College library has over one lakh books. While individual department libraries often have hundreds of additional course specific research material. The computer terminals at the College allow access to the University network as well as all major journal archives and a host of minor ones.
Ramjas College Canteen is quite modern with high ceiling hall, several round tables, a large delivery counter and a small but efficient accounts counter. There is a wide range of food that awaits you in this place bustling with enthusiastic crowd of the college. There is the lip smacking French fries, the mouthwatering Rajma Chawal and the hot crispy bhaturas with delicious Choles. The Pav Bhaji, the pasta, the noodles! Try once and you will keep coming for more. And yes, there’s also a counter for beverages. The College canteen is hygienic and definitely a cool place to hang out at.
There are numerous club and society events in Ramjas. There is the dramatics society, the debating society, the literary society, fine arts society and of course the wonderfully magnificent the photography society to help you explore the hidden talent within you.

“MOSAIC” the annual cultural fest of Ramjas draws crowd from far and wide. Marked by a plethora of events and star studded performances it is definitely something to watch out for as diverse activities and inter college competitions make it fun and happening.
