Among the premier institutes of North Campus, University of Delhi, stands Miranda House.Dedicated for education of young women, Miranda established in 1948, is a well reputed college offering a wide array of courses in the sciences and liberal arts.
The College was founded in 1948 by the then University Vice-Chancellor, Sir Maurice Gwyer. The architecture of the college resembles that of the other educational institutions built during the colonial era. Miranda is built of red bricks and its original design was planned by the famous architect Walter Sykes George.
The foundation stone of the college hostel was laid by Lady Edwina Mountbatten on 7th March 1948. The beautifully maintained gardens add to its pristine glory. The hostel has a dining hall with an arched ceiling and attached to the dining hall are the coffee lounge and common room. In the recent years extensive restoration and refurbishment work has been undertaken to preserve this heritage building and restore the grandeur of its red brick façade and unique interiors.
Located within the college campus, the residence opens on Chhatra Marg. The hostel administration includes the Principal, the Vice Principal, the Bursar, Teacher representatives on the Hostel Committee, Resident tutor (if any) and the Hostel Warden.
