Lady Irwin College

Established in 1932, it is a women only college, located in Sikandara Road. 

The college has an illustrious ancestry and was established under the patronage of Lady Dorothy Irwin, wife of Lord Irwin and the Maharanis of Baroda and Bhopal, Sarojini Naidu, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Annie Besant, Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay, Margaret Cousins and Sir Ganga Ram Kaula to name a few in 1931.

Infrastructure -

The buildings of the college campus have been classified and protected as heritage sites.

The college shifted to its current campus at Sikandra Road in 1938. Till 1950, it was managed by the All India Women’s Education Fund Association. 

After getting affiliated to DU honours degree courses were introduced in the college.

 It also has a Wi-Fi enabled Hostel with LCD television besides other facilities. The rooms are spacious and well furnished. 

The college has a digital library with a specialised collection of books, journals, magazines and other reading material on home science and allied areas. There are more than 50,000 documents, 2200 research papers, and 7500 bound, back files of periodicals available. The college building has been renovated recently and has an air-conditioned reading-cum-conference room. There is also a hostel for 160 students. The campus houses 27 science laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
