What do the stalwarts, actress Tisca Chopra, environmentalist Ashish Kothari cricketer Ajay Jadeja, and singer Rekha Bhardwaj, film director Imtiaz Ali coming from different backgrounds, masters of different talents, share in common? Well, they all have been proud alumni of the prestigious Hindu College of North Campus, University of Delhi. And, the list does not end here it goes on, encompassing people from all walks of life.

 Hindu College, one of the oldest colleges in Delhi, offers courses in the sciences and humanities.


Hindu College was founded by Krishan Daasji Gurwale in 1899 in the backdrop of nationalist struggle against the British. The College was deeply connected with the national movement for independence.Several of the Trustees of the college, the Body members were directly involved in the Swadeshi and Boycott movements. Students both boys and girls were actively involved with the Non- Cooperation Movement and later the Quit India Movement. The College was earlier a part of the Punjab University and it became affiliated to Delhi University in 1922.


Hindu College Hostel, with its architectural grandeur and aesthetics, has been an abode to many luminaries and has provided fuel and force to the life and motion of College’s liberal democratic academic culture. With 119 rooms the hostel provided residential services to about two hundred undergraduate and postgraduate male students. The hostel has a Common Room and a TV room. Admissions are strictly on the basis of merit.

A girl’s hostel has been added to the college campus recently.


The Hindu College boasts of a great library. The library is one of the oldest libraries of DU and is fully air conditioned and computerized. The library has over one lakh books and 2000+eJournals. Also, there is a reading room with a great number of dailies,weeklies, periodicals and journals on accountable subjects.



“POCKET FRIENDLY”!!   YES, HINDU has the most pocket friendly DU canteen. Considered to be the most economical canteen in North Campus, the college canteen serves food at reasonable prices, and is popular for its North Indian food. Samosas, Rajma- Chawal, Shahi Paneer name it and you’ve got it! Hey, and the canteen won’t disappoint you even in terms of non-veg food.

It’s one of the coolest hangout spot in North Campus serving delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.


Well, well,well! Indeed, “Mecca” the annual fest of Hindu College is one the largest crowd grabber. Students from all across the University flock to Hindu for is amazing,high spirited fest. It is marked by literary events, fashion shows, star studded performances.


College societies foster comradeship amongst the students. They play an important role in helping the students develop intellectually, morally and physically.

The most popular society of Hindu is “IBTIDA” its dramatics society formed by Imtiaz Ali when he was a student at the college. The society hold its annual fest “MEDINA”which is extremely popular among drama enthusiasts.

There are other societies too. There is the Finance and Investment Cell, Alankar (Indian music society), the English debating society popularly known as Debsoc, Aria (western music society), Abstraction (the Fine Arts society) etc.

Hindu also has a Students’ Parliament. All the students are Members of the Hindu Parliament. The structure is similar to the Indian Parliament with a Prime Minister, to which elections are held, and a cabinet. It fosters a spirit of parliamentary democracy within the students.
